Mitch Ryder

Godfather of Detroit Rock Coming to the Chip

From the redneck rock 'n' roll son of Detroit, Kid Rock to the Motor City madman, Ted Nugent to the incomparable Bob Seger, Detroit has a rich history. And it all started with Mitch Ryder and The Detroit Wheels.

Mitch Ryder will take Sturgis Rally out in style when he takes the stage at the Legendary Buffalo Chip on Saturday, Aug. 9 along with Saving Abel.

High octane, turbo, high performance, super charged Mitch Ryder & The Detroit Wheels didn't need to hail from the Motor City for those adjectives to be tossed their way, but it was certainly appropriate that they called Motown home.

Their take no prisoners rock 'n' roll has been burning up stages since the mid-1960s when "Jenny Take A Ride" hit the charts and was followed by "Devil With a Blue Dress On."  Later hits included "Little Latin Lupe Lu," "Sock It To Me Baby" and "Too Many Fish in the Sea/Three Little Fishes."

"There have been a lot of great bands at the Buffalo Chip," said Rod Woodruff, Buffalo Chip owner. "But nobody, especially our crowd of bikers, will walk away from this show without knowing they have been in the presence of rock 'n' roll greatness.  Mitch Ryder is absolutely the Godfather of an entire genre of rock music: Detroit Rock."

The band's records worked because they perfectly captured the kinetic frenzy of the live performances that are the group's stock in trade.

The band's appearance will close the Chip's nine-day music festival during the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally.  The Buffalo Chip's 2008 experience was recently featured in Rolling Stone and will include performances by Foghat, The Guess Who, Alice Cooper, Puddle of Mudd, Rev Theory, Kid Rock, Kellie Pickler, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Theory of a Deadman, ZZ Top, Staind, Dierks Bentley and Saving Abel.

Concluding the Saturday, Aug. 9 performances will be the finals of the Miss Buffalo Chip Pageant, which will culminate nine days of preliminary contests.  Blues artists The Frankie Moreno Band will play as part of the contest. The winner of the Miss Buffalo Chip Pageant will win $1,000 and an all-expense trip to Hawaii to compete in the Miss Hawaiian Tropic International pageant.
