ZZ Top is coming to the Legendary Buffalo Chip Campground, Thursday, Aug. 7, 2008 during the annual Sturgis Motorcycle Rally. They’ll be joined by country music rising stars, Sugarland.
A favorite among Sturgis Rally music lovers, ZZ Top remains one of the bands most requested by Buffalo Chip campers. “The show is just unbelievable,” said Rod Woodruff, campground owner. “These guys just never fail to light our crowd on fire.”
With a string of hits dating back to the band’s inception in 1970, with Billy Gibbons on guitar, Dusty Hill on bass and Frank Beard on drums, ZZ Top holds the distinction of being the only rock band to have the same members for 38 years! And they’ve been without peer all those years, supporting their fans ¬– including those at the Buffalo Chip during the Sturgis Rally – with annual, grueling concert tours, that especially today leave concert audiences wondering what just hit them.
Inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall of Fame in 2004, their list of “essential recordings” includes: “Legs,” “La Grange,” “Cheap Sunglasses,” “Sharp Dressed Man,” “Tush,” “I’m Bad, I’m Nationwide,” “Just Got Paid,” “Sleeping Bag,” and “Jesus Just Left Chicago.”
But that’s just a small list of the red-hot Texas bookie and blues themes that have been favorites with Sturgis Bike Rally crowds. That list must also include: “Velcro Fly,” “Rough Boy,” “Pearl Necklace,” “Viva Las Vegas,” “I Thank You,” “Tube Snake Boogie,” “Got Me Under Pressure,” and “Gimme All Your Lovin’”.
ZZ Top’s Hall of Fame biography says, “The genius of ZZ Top is that they’re reverential about the blues but loose and funny about the subject matter of their songs. Their songs are laden with pop-culture references, sexual double entendres and the determined pursuit of a good time. They have written about fast cars, fishnet stockings, sharp clothes, TV dinners, cheap sunglasses and “tush.”
“They’re just the perfect band for a Sturgis Rally Buffalo Chip crowd,” said Woodruff.
