I am talked into camping this year at the Chip! Of course I am totally looking forward to it! I have friends that camp in Mihcigan in summer willing to let me borrow a tent, but I am wondering if I need to investe in something a little more weather worthy for Sturgis! Anyone have any recommendations??? Cant wait till August!:D

Wind is the biggest issue that your tent will have to deal with- it can really start whippin' on the plains!

If you are going to be packing your camping gear on a bike (Dyna?), a lightweight, backpacking-style tent would be the ticket. Personally, I like a tent I can stand up in that has plenty of room for riding gear, boots, helmets, etc.

You don't have to spend a bunch of cash to get a good home-away-from-home; I have a Coleman Durango that I bought at Wally World a few years ago for about 70 bucks; it's still hanging in there after a couple of trips to the Chip and several to the Moonshine in Daytona.

Get some good tent stakes (to make sure your tent stays where you left it) and do a practice run setting it up before you head for Sturgis.

You are going to have a great time at the Chip- make sure you check out the campground map to find a good spot for your tent.

Ride Safe- See you in August!

Like above, bring really good stakes, the long ones and extra rope to tie down your tent..the wind IS a bitch and she'll let you know it. Also shade, bring something for shade if you can. A tarp with more stakes and rope. Bring less clothes and more money. There food and drink everywhere so don't bring any. You can wash your clothes anytime you want and there's free pancakes & coffee every morning plus other breakfast joints. It's awesome, see you there!

Thanks. I was thinking it was the rain I would need to worry about, so that helps in checking things out. Are the long metal stakes (corner shaped) adequate for Chip ground?

Those stakes are perfect- bring something to drive them into the ground and they should hold without any problems.

the bigger the tent the more the wind damage I've seen poles break and tents blow away I don't worry to much about the rain it seems things dry out as soon as the sun comes back out you should do just fine I have a large size backpack tent I won't want to carry it up a mountain but it packs on the bike just fine see you at the beer bash

Will definately be ridin. Rode out last year, but stayed in Rapid City inside... so this year we will be outside in the elements having all the fun! I am totally ready to be there, of course dont want to miss all the riding this summer before that time either. I still havent bought the tent and need to do so soon, so I can get few test runs in before Sturgis! LOL
:wow: 84 days till we head out!
