I'm planning my first trip to Sturgis this year, and I was wondering if there's any problem with having your vehicle and bike trailer at your tent-camping site. I tent camp out of the back of a chevy Avalanche and have a small trailer.

I have a question as the same above, but I will be bring a pop-up type camper. Staying in the south 40. Can I leave my vehicle there or do I move it to the vehicle lot outside the Chip? Thanks

All tent camping I've seen has the cage with the trailer by the tent. You DO have to pay for the trailer, though. But they are kept in tent camping. Read about the reservations and trailers.

I'm a first timer looking to tent camp with a truck and bike trailer.
Are camp site marked or do you just pick a spot? If the sites are marked, what size are they? Anything else I might need to know would
be great. See you all in August.

If you want a campsite with electricity, water, then your site will be assigned to you. If you are "dry camping" then you are assigned to the specific dry camping area which is in the south part of the park, along the eastern perimeter. Actually, it is a great place to be because you are close to the stages (yes, they have 3 stages and actually 4 if you count the Jack Daniels facility)and you are close to the exit, the stores, bars and restaurants and the vendors selling everything you can imagine and even a few items you have to see to beleive.

If you are in the dry camping area, when you arrive at the Chip, they will assign someone on a 4 wheeler to take you to your spot. They do the same with anyone who has a campsite with services. they do a good job of keeping everyone in a line so that the "roads" are kept open for emergencys. The dry camping area DOES NOT have assigned spaces, but as is the case with all property in the Chip, there are designated roads and you will be lined up to stay in the roads.

If you have another group coming to the Chip that you want to camp by, have them arrive with you if possible otherwise they won't be assured the space next to or near you will be open.

With the changes that the Chip has made with the entrance area and gate, there is a ton of room to park while you are in line at the ticket window. Also, there is a big field near the entrance so if the other party you want to camp with is going to get there a few hours after you do, you can park off to the north and wait for them.

Keep in mind that for the most part, you are driving through fields that have not been graded or altered in anyway. They make great use of all of the property they have.

Good luck and you will enjoy your time at the Chip! Everyone who goes there usually does!
