| I'm from Louisiana, and the altitude here is frequently BELOW sea-level; is there anything I need to do to my bike for riding the Black Hills? |

crazycajun, I'm from oregon, my bikes set up for sea level & runs just fine at sturgis. I loose a little power and mileage. That's all. |

Would need some engine information to give y'all a real answer. Generally, unless you want to drag race you should be alright. You will most likely feel some performance difference unless it's an EFI bike. |

I had the same kinda question and found my answer ! It was about my generator. Mfg said anything above 5,000 ft. needs a jet change. I belive we will be arround 3,200 ? So it will run a litle rich...no problem. Efi Harleys compensate for altitude right STROKER ? My 04 ultra ran great last yr. |

I live in Michigan at about 400' altitude. Just a couple of months ago, in May, I rode from Michigan to Utah, Wyoming, Nevada, Idaho, Montana, Washington, Oregon, California, Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, Oklahoma, Missouri, Illinois, Indiana and back to Michigan. Close to 6,000 miles on that trip which took me three and 1/2 weeks to do it at a nice pace. During my trip, I was at as high an altitude as 10,800' with no problems. Obviously, there was some loss of power but nothing too dramatic. Fuel milage never varied more than 10% from normal. I spent over 5 hours straight above 8,000 feet + on the Continental Divide. I even have pictures by the various altitude signs as proof! My bike is an 02' Road King with a Carb. You won't see much if any differnce in your bikes performance UNLESS you have a highly modified bike. If so, I would pose that question to your engine builder, etc. Glad to see that you survived Katrina, etc. You will have a WONDERFUL time at some of the best riding in the U.S. and I have been in 43 states with my Hog so I can speak from experience... |
