I'm thinkin we should be right about where your talking, just south of Emerald Pond and kinda Northwest of the south shower house. WE are very excited 158 days and a wakeup now. To me it'll feel like coming home. I don't know what it is about them hills, but well, those of us that know just know. Countin down the days til August, will be in the NW corner of Nebrasky in June, I've been secretly wondering if I could get away with sneaking up to Sturgis he he, but, family vaca, I think granny would get mad LOL No sense of humor when it comes to the bike riding if ya know what I mean. Is it August yet???HUH???? |

Well it's official, we just made our online reservations last night... This will only be my second trip to Sturgis, came out for the first time in '04...also stayed at the buffalo chip then. this time I'm bringing 7 people with me...all for their first time. We are staying in the south 40 somewhere???? I've got to find something to get my mind off of this or it is going to be a really long wait We've got a few smaller local rallies coming up before this so that should help. see ya all there |

Welcome to shewolf and Willie W! Be ready to partay! nebwylthang- That's a good area by Emerald pond. It's close to the shower tub where's ya might be able to clean up after a dusty day. ;) You cut across the sandhills instead of running up 83? I haven't tried that route. Granny just needs a ride on the bike to get a breeze up her bloomers. See ya then! |

OK Pek (and other interested people) In my opinion (just my opinion) there several ways to get across the sandhills of Nebrasky. Get out your maps and observe Straight up 283 thru McCook then North Platte then Valentine on up to I-90. This route will take you just east of the Badlands, as there is absolutely nothing to see, except a stark beauty of the plains and sandhills. McCook, North Platte, Valentine are all good size towns with all the amenities inbetween NP and Valentine is the gas stop of Thedford (gas station at junction of Hwys 2 and 283) All have premium fuel. The Sand Hills Hawg Stop is inbetween Thedford and Valentine out in the middle of no where, very nice place to stop, vendors, food beer garden camping for those that need a good relaxing break. (www.sandhillshawgstop.com) Cutting across the Sandhills Pek? Would be a good ride, long straightaways where you can probably cut loose a little, but, it's a long ways between bigger towns, with permium fuel, a lot of small towns where if you break down or sumthin, could be stranded for a while if you know what I mean. The more scenic route, you need to cut over West of Ogallala, go North my friend, and cut around the south side of Lake McConaughy (largest lake in Neb and 3rd largest man made dam) very beautiful ride, through the canyons, lots of history with the oregon trail, pioneers, indians yada yada, on Hwy 26 to Northport where you cut North again on #385 and we all know this takes us straight to the Black Hills. #385 in Neb will cut you through the NW part of the state where we have our own smaller version of the Black Hills, called the Pine Ridge Area, but still very beautiful ride. No shortage of towns, amenities or premium fuel. If you and the Mrs have already taken #283 north, I would suggest the scenic route, you'll get a more interactive ride and will get to ride more of the hills as it will take you right up through Hot Springs, Custer, etc etc. Besides, the mileage is actually less by about 40 miles on the scenic route |

OH yeah, for those that are gonna travel in Nebraska, I almost forgot, the worst thing about Nebraska, it's a bucket state, I prefer not to wear one, but, I really wouldn't want to get caught without, the local law enforcement don't seem to have a sense of humor about it and it will cut into your folding, less Jack Black to drink |

Thanks wyldthang, ;) We shall see about that way. Yea, the land of the cornhuskers is the only state I get through from TX to MT with a mandatory skid lid law. Oh, well! Part o' the trip, whether I agree or not. Don't agree though. We got some friends in Hebron, so we usually bed down there, then make the trip to da' Chip. Up to York, over to Elm Creek, then up to Ansley to Thedford and up on 83. The road through the sticks looks more scenic. Just might have to try it. The extra money I take is for the Jack, not to put a little Jack in some locals pockets. See ya soon! |

Well well well what a small world Pek, I'm about 17 miles south of Elm Creek he he and my folks were born and raised in Hebron, that's their old stomping grounds and where I went to visit Grandma when I was a kid, in fact, my folks live about 25 SW of York. You could take #136 all the way over to McCook from Hebron, a little more of a spartan highway, just 2 lane, (probably only 60mph) but it would be much more scenic if that's what your lookin for. You could cut over on Hwy 4 at Bruning, even more spartan, but at least that'd take you past my brothers little bike shop in Lawrence and a nice friendly biker bar in that town. But I know how hard that is if you don't know what is in the towns and what kinda gas they have. I mean, there is better country to ride around here besides being just flat and straight, you just have to know where to find a little bit of it. We all hate the helmut law too, I guess it's coming up for another vote this year, I hope we can get it repealed this time. When the time comes if'n you and Lil Red are close and ready for a little break, we'll have to get together. |

FlaSteve: This is ment in all kindness and friendship, but concerning your wonderful weather and your continual need to tell us all about how great it is and how great it is to ride in it and how great it feels to have the sun on your face while you ride in it and all that stuff, kiss my butt Yes, I know it is not your fault that the weather in Nebaska sucks the big one, but, I feel better somehow after bytching about it, and I felt that you could take some ribbing about it for the general good. Cyas in August for a cold one on me |
