I'll be short on vacation days this summer so am thinking of leaving the FXDS home and flying to Sturgis Airport. (About 12 to 14 hours from New Jersey) From the looks at the map, the Chip is within a mile of the airport, so maybe 20 minute walk. Can anyone confirm that? Thanks! ---Ken |

| If you are flying yourself that will work fine but Sturgis does not have comercial flights. |

Mike, Thanks for the quick response. Yes, I would be flying myself. Got a '76 Cessna Cardinal about a year ago, and this would be the by a lot the farthest I've flown it. ---Ken |

| It should be a great flight. A few thunder storms that time of year and it a nice runway. The winds are usually right down 11 or 29. Smooth Flying. If you are needing a ride down to the Chip. If you call the office I am sure that arrangments can be made to get you. |

Ken, from what I have seen when I have been up to the Sturgis International Airport, there certainly is no attended tower and I would be worried about the runway having any lights at night. It is an OLD airport that almost looks abandoned. I have been to the top of the hill where it overlooks the Chip to take photos each day of the rally so those who don't attend will beleive me when I tell them about the massive migration of bikers. Of the numerous times I have been up there, I have never seen a plane take off or land. Please check on that airport carefully before you head out. We don't want anything to happen to you brother. Also, just in case you were not aware, there is a HUGE Air Force Base in Rapid City. That is the one where the commercial airliner landed there instead of at the Rapid City airport. I guess the pilot just told everyone to keep their window shades pulled down until he said it was OK for them to raise them (after he landed in the correct airport). Be safe man. We want to see you at the Chip and with that being such a long flight for you, take extra caution! You are right about the walk being about 20 minutes from the airport to the Chip.....Stay Safe, Bruce |

| Ken: We are Flying into Rapid city from Fl. on the 4th and out on the 13th. Renting a 4 wheeler and staying in the VIP area at the Chip. Send me a private e-mail when you get the airport thing strait and we'll be happy to come pick you up and bring you to the Chip. I've got a cingular cellphone and it works fine at the Chip. |

Be assured that the Sturgis Airport is in great shape and that all the lights work well (regular mic clicks). It is long enough to handel most aircraft and there is a unicom that is monitored during daytime hours. There are hundreds of planes that fly in during the rally. |

| Mike's right Ken, And if you stop by the VIP gate you can meet the Grandson of Clyde Ice that the strip was named after. He worked with Henry Ford and changed the shape of the windshield of the Ford Tri Motor. Just ask for Jeff, also a pilot. So, Take a Plane, Take a Train, Paddle your way there, Just get there. :-) You won't want to miss the party. Take Care. Bonnie |
