Been a lotta prairie fires here in good ole Nebraskay, land of the lid laws. If you are traveling up #385 to get to the Black Hills or #83 through Valentine to get to the Badlands, please keep an eye out. Have had prairie fires that moved into Valentine and they are fighting 3-4 of em around the Chadron, Harrison, Chadron State Park area right now. Just an FYI folks, ride/drive safely.

Missouri I-29

Below was posted somewhere else from a friend I know and thought it might be handy to pass on --------------->

This was in my paper today. Easy way around this is to take 229 (if you are heading from the south or North) and go around it. 229 is a huge semi circle around town.

Work on I-29 set to begin next week

Motorists, prepare yourselves. Roadwork on Interstate 29 around St. Joseph will kick into full gear Monday.

I-29 work between U.S. Highway Business 71 and Missouri Route O will shut down lanes and close the U.S. Highway 36 ramps.

General superintendent Bob Wills of Herzog Contracting said there will be two phases of work along the 13-mile stretch of highway.

"The first phase will begin Monday and last for two to three weeks, depending on the weather," he said.

During this phase, they will start with the southbound lanes of Interstate 29 at Business 71, heading toward Frederick Boulevard where they will turn to the northbound lanes and come back.

"We'll have traffic shut down to one lane," Mr. Wills said.

The pavers will switch back and forth between the driving and passing lanes as they mill, grate and pave, he said.

The second phase will be between Frederick Boulevard to just south of Route O. Mr. Wills said he thinks they will begin at Route O and work the northbound lanes first, then turn to the southbound lanes once they reach Frederick Boulevard.

Whatever direction they choose first, closing of the U.S. 36 ramps at some point is inevitable because they also will be paved, MoDOT Senior Outreach Specialist Holly Murphy said.

"We expect the ramp closures to begin approximately two weeks from Monday," she said. "When that happens, we will put out a specific schedule of what ramps and when."

Ms. Murphy said the closures will be brief each day to minimize disruption of commuters.

"We expect to do that during the middle of the day to keep from interrupting traffic during the morning and afternoon commute for working people in the area," she said.
