As I posted elswhere.
Avoid Chi town. Lots of really ugly construction in the downtown area and at all the outbound tool booths on 90 west. Traffic is a nightmare. If you can go south of the city and turn north towards the center of the state. Try and head up towards Rockford and you will miss most of the problems.
Just be wery wery carefull. In Illinois there are two seasons winter and construction. and construction is enroaching on winter these days.
We also had a mild winter and the wildlife had a bumper crop of babies. Lots of deer and other critters can make driving a nasty accident. Be warned.
