Joe Walsh & James Gang to Ride Again at the Chip

They have not toured together since 1971. The James Gang will ride again at the Legendary Buffalo Chip on Thursday, Aug. 10.

The James Gang power trio from the Midwest includes Joe Walsh on guitar, Jimmy Fox on drums and Dale Peters on bass.

"With the emergence of Cream and the Jimi Hendrix Experience during the late '60s, the path was cleared for other hard-rockin' "trios." Arguably, the finest to emerge from the subsequent American crop was the James Gang," according to the band's VH-1 biography by Greg Prato of All Music Guide.

"Funk #49 played live at the Buffalo Chip! I didn't think that would ever happen! They quit touring years before we had our first party," said Rod Woodruff, campground owner. "We're so pleased to be a part of this historic reunion tour with one of the Eagles, Joe Walsh, rejoining with The James Gang, which was in itself a pivotal band of the early '70s. It's just a wonderful addition to our 25th Annual celebration."

The Gang's roots stretch back to 1966 in Cleveland, OH. Walsh joined the band in 1968. Their debut album, Yer' Album, followed in 1969. And, 1970's classic Rides Again, spawned the rock gem "Funk #49." It became one of rock's most instantly identifiable tracks, and also established Walsh's talent for penning exceptional guitar riffs.

Walsh's songwriting and guitar talents helped the band launch another top-notch studio album, 1971's Thirds, which spawned an additional classic rock radio standard, "Walk Away." Around the same time as the appearance of a live set later the same year (Live in Concert), Walsh departed the group, first focusing on solo work before joining up with one of the '70s' biggest bands, the Eagles.

Also announced for the 2006 Buffalo Chip Concert Series are: Alice Cooper, Gretchen Wilson and Lynyrd Skynyrd, Montgomery Gentry and George Thorogood & The Destroyers, and Kid Rock with Blue Oyster Cult.
