Adding to the excitement of this year’s attractions is the 2009 Down Under: Roo’s & More show. Catch the wallabies, kangaroos and walleroos in a fun interactive meet and greet happening just inside the Kinison Playground. The trainers are bringing out the joey’s, answering your burning questions and giving you an inside look at the amazing animal’s lives.
The Roo Ranch has put together the show to see Thursday afternoon during the Sturgis rally, featuring Mia a New Guinea Singing Dog. Mia is one of just a handful of this endangered species making her tour through the Black Hills as an educational spokesman for her rare breed. You’ll be able to hear Mia’s unique story of survival in the wild and her new friends at the Roo Ranch.
Q & A Session with Samantha, Roo Ranch Trainer.
Q. What’s an interesting fact about Kangaroos?
A. Kangaroo’s are actually the size of a jelly bean when they are born and grow to be 8 feet tall.
Q. What is a daily routine like for a Kangaroo at the Roo Ranch?
A. We have a lot of fun showing our unique ranch off to our visitors. The ‘roos love the attention that they get with training, interactive sessions with the visitors and of course feeding times. The hotter temps in the summertime send the animals under the misting sprinklers and comfortably bedded down. The animals are most active at dawn and then again at dusk.
Q. What is the newest addition to the Ranch?
A. On March 17, 2009 we welcomed our newest and equally unique animal to the family, an Albino Eastern Grey.
