Frequently Asked Questions about the Buffalo Chip Campground and Sturgis Rally
What’s the difference between the Rally Pass, Extended Rally Pass and the Early Bird Pass?
The Rally Pass pays for campground admission for Monday through Sunday. The Extended Rally Pass pays for admission for all the dates of the “official” Rally, plus the prior Saturday and Sunday. The Early Bird Pass pays for all dates from July 31 through August 14.
You may still arrive earlier than the dates covered in the package selected and paid for. Arrivals prior to those dates simply require payment at the Box Office for camping on the dates for which you arrive prior to the dates reserved. It’s just like having reserved certain days at a hotel and then arriving a day or two early.
Can we buy for just individual days?
Yes. Individual day rates will be posted and available online. They usually are not scheduled until mid-April.
How can I get reservations for the concerts even though I’m not camping at the Chip?
Purchased admission is a campground pass. You can camp or leave at any time. Concerts are free with admission.
Camping passes can be purchased online or at local ticket outlets (including area BP Stations, the Sturgis or Rapid City Harley-Davidson dealerships, and others), or at the Box Office upon arrival.
Can we show up for the concerts and/or camp without a reservation?
Yes.
Are there showers at the Chip?
Yes! Two shower houses provide 66 free showers. Shower vendors Clean & Shiny Showers and Maui Showers provide more for a reasonable fee.
Are there restrooms?
There are 7 buildings of flush toilets in the amphitheater area, plus many permanent outhouses throughout the campground. Each shower house also has flush toilets.
Can we bring our own alcohol to the campground and concerts?
Sorry, but it’s illegal. Several on site bars provide beer and liquor. Carry out beer is available for the campground. No outside beer can be brought into the amphitheater.
Is there food available?
There is plenty of great food available from temporary food vendors, plus Dominos Pizza, Taco Bell, the Chrome Cantina, Stage West Café, Buffalo Chip Grill, and the Sturgis Rider Café. The Sons of Light Ministry provide a free pancake breakfast every morning.
Can we reserve our tent camping spot?
There’s plenty of room for your tent. The actual tent camping spots are claimed on a first come, first served basis.
Can we reserve a spot for our motor home?
Yes. Reservations are advised.
Are pop-up campers ok? What about a bus?
Yes.
Can we bring our camera to the concerts?
Bands uniformly prohibit cameras. Non-professional cameras generally are allowed anyway. We don’t care but the bands do and they require us to enforce the restriction. We actually encourage the snapshooter, but please no professional equipment.
Can we bring our pet?
Safety has required a uniform prohibition that must be enforced without exception. Arrangements must be made for your pet before you arrive at the Chip. Below is a list of local pet boarders:
