4th Annual Sturgis Legends Ride ® for Charity Nears Sellout

Rally kick-off event has raised more than $150,000 in three years

(DEADWOOD & STURGIS, S.D. 7-14-2011) – Only a few spots remain for the Ride that kicks off the Sturgis Rally. The annual Legends Ride ® on Monday, August 8, pairs Rally-goers with celebrities and top-bike builders on a ride from Deadwood to the Sturgis Buffalo Chip ®, and the 4th annual Ride is on the verge of its fourth consecutive sellout.

All proceeds from the Legends Ride benefit local charities, including the Black Hills Special Olympics and the Sturgis Motorcycle Museum & Hall of Fame. The event has raised more than $150,000 for local charities in the past three years.

Tickets for the ride are $150. The charitable contribution entitles contributors to pre- and post-ride events in Deadwood and at the Sturgis Buffalo Chip, free parking in Deadwood and at The Chip, food and drinks prior to the concert, meet-and-greet opportunities with master builders and celebrities and a special souvenir gift pack. Tickets can be purchased at www.legendsride.com or by calling (605) 347-9000.

“The Legends Ride has quickly become a Rally tradition, and tickets are in high demand. Which really isn’t too surprising considering the world-class bike builders, celebrities and entertainment lined up for participants; and, of course, the chance to help a couple of great charities,” said George Milos, executive director of the Deadwood Chamber of Commerce & Visitors Bureau, an event sponsor. “We are proud to be a partner in this Rally event.”

The Legends Ride begins on Deadwood’s famed Main Street as the Silverado-Franklin and the Deadwood Tobacco Company roll out the red carpet for motorcyclists from around the world. Riders will revel in the unique atmosphere of this Wild West town as they celebrate a day with celebrities, builders, artists, cigar aficionados, along with a special group photo with renowned motorcycle photographer Michael Lichter. The 500-some riders and passengers will then head on a 55-mile route through some of the Black Hills’ most beautiful landscapes via pristine stretches of asphalt, finishing the journey at the Legendary Buffalo Chip for a reception, auction and concerts by rockers Buckcherry and Def Leppard.

“The Legends Ride provides the perfect backdrop to showcase the compassion and generosity of the motorcycle community to the entire world,” said Rod Woodruff, owner of the Sturgis Buffalo Chip. “While giving back is an option for some, it’s the foundation for the industry-leading business and civic-minded sponsors of the Legends Ride and we thank them for their support and generosity as we look forward to yet another highly successful event.”
