New RV Pumping  Information

Expect to have top notch service with the folks who will do your dirty work to make sure your waste water tanks are empty.  For 2009, we present a special offer for pre-purchased pumps of your waste water tanks which means that you can purchase, schedule and leave the work to us.  Waste Connections, Inc is offering the PUMP service to all RV campers staying at the Legendary Buffalo Chip and the convenience of a pre-pay and save package of up to four pumps.

Dry RV campers can also take advantage of potable water with the FILL option.  Please be aware that there must be ample amount of space for the trucks to get to you and therefore we suggest that when you arrive you park in a location where access to your vehicle won’t be blocked, and then make your purchases for Pumps and/or Fills at that time.

We are working to make the 2009 Sturgis Rally Camping a hassle free vacation with these 3 steps:

1.  Pre-Purchase the Package and take advantage of discounted prices.  Suggested Pump/Fill with a 4 person reservation in 1 RV is 1 pump per two days.  Depending on the level of use, 50 gallons of water will last for 10 bathroom flushes and 8 short showers so you can plan accordingly.
2. Schedule your pumps and fills when you arrive at the campground at the Waste Connections office.  You will be able to purchase pumps and fills on site, too, at the regular rates.
3. Leave the work to us and enjoy your vacation.  The 28th year of the Best Party Anywhere doesn’t say anything about being ‘backed up’.

Save with these RV Service Specials:

One pre-paid waste water pump:   $30.00   (After July26th:  $35)
Two pre-paid waster water pumps:  $55.00   (After July 26th:  $70)

Howdy. An ever-increasing number of our Sturgis Rally campers choose to travel and camp in recreational vehicles .

RV's are becoming more and more popular with Sturgis Rally Campers

Howdy. An ever-increasing number of our customers choose to travel and camp in recreational vehicles .

Buffalo Chip tries to meet the needs of  RV sites for the 2006 Sturgis Motorcycle Rally

We have attempted to meet this need by completing hundreds of improved RV sites where we can make power and water available. However, we're learning as we go, so we want to take this opportunity to insure you are fully apprized of our situation.

Buffalo Chip is a Biker Campground first

First, we are a biker campground. We came into existence to give the bikers a place to go when Sturgis wanted to get the riff-raff out of town. Our mission is to provide the best party anywhere. We do our best to provide for RV spaces, but they consume an inordinate amount of resources and not all RV people are bikers. That said, we offer the following in an attempt to avoid any misunderstanding.

Sturgis Rally RV Sites Improved With Power and Water

Specify whether your rig requires 30 amp or 50 amp service and enjoy one of the Chip's improved RV sites.  There are improved sites in each area, including the South 40, Crazy Horse Hill, Water Tower Hill and the Stage Hill.  Also, while there is no sewer hookups for these areas, there are plenty of dump stations.  The first eight (8) dump stations are located at the entrance as you approach the West Gate (main entrance), so please dump prior to entering the camp.  Please take a look at the online camp map to determine the location of other dump stations.  Also, the Chip has each year had a vendor septic pumping company on-site to pump your RV while parked at your camp space.  We expect to have another such Sturgis Rally vendor there to service you again this year.  Please revisit this website periodically for updated details.

When making your 2009 Sturgis Rally site reservation we need to know your RV length

You MUST know in advance the length of your RV and whether you require 30 amp service or 50 amp service. The two are different and not interchangeable. Accordingly, if you give us the incorrect amperage requirement, you will need an adapter in order t0 have power. It will be your responsibility to provide the adapter.

Improved site are in a pasture or alfalfa field

NO RV space is paved. There is neither pavement nor concrete. The improvements are in a pasture or alfalfa field. We have not and will not pave sites. There is no pavement in the campground. All roads are either chipped asphalt, gravel or trails in the prairie or alfalfa.

2009 Sturgis Rally RV site are not perfect but the party almost is

None of the RV spaces are leveled. The spaces in Stage Hill RV Park are naturally pretty level. Most of the spaces in Crazy Horse RV Park are relatively level, but some require more leveling than others, so you should discuss it when you call to make your reservation. The spaces in the South 40 are naturally fairly level. You should take the natural terrain into consideration and be prepared to know what special arrangements you'll need if you are trailering an expensive custom or show bike with minimal clearance.

Don't expect to always see the Sturgis Rally Buffalo Chip concert from the Stage Hill RV park

Spaces in the Stage Hill RV Park are at the top of the amphitheater. We cannot guarantee you'll be able to see the stage over the top of another camper who may camp between you and the stage.

RV site are first come first serve at this Sturgis Campground

RV spaces in Crazy Horse and Stage Hill are assigned at the time of sale. The space you want may not be available if you're reserving late. Sites in the South 40 Parks are also first come - first served, however they are not assigned. If you want to camp next to your buddy, you will need to arrive together.

Stage Hill sites are 30 amp only

RV spaces in the Stage Hill RV Park are 20 feet wide and of varying length, not exceeding 40 feet. These sites provide 30 amp power ONLY. Some sites will only accommodate shorter rigs.

South 40 East sites are either 30 or 50 amp

RV spaces in the South 40 East are 20 feet wide and 40 feet long. Either 30 or 50 amp power is available.

Crazy Horse and South 40 West

RV spaces in Crazy Horse and South 40 West are 25 feet wide and 40 feet long. Either 30 or 50 amp power is available. Some sites in Crazy Horse will only accommodate shorter rigs.

Buffalo Chip Campers Are Considerate of Each Other

No RV unit, trailer, motorcycle, and/or 4-wheeled vehicle will be allowed to extend into the roadway or run over the boundaries of the designated RV camping site. There will also be NO PARKING ALLOWED of any additional 4-wheeled vehicles, motorcycles, and/or trailers within the roadways. The roadways MUST remain clear in order for emergency crews, service vehicles, and RV units to move freely and have full access for their respective duties/destinations. Keeping the roadways clear is of HIGHEST PRIORITY.

Please know that we’ll have to strictly enforce this.  We once had a heart attack victim in an RV that the ambulance couldn't’t get to because of such parking.  It may be a simple little rule and may create a little inconvenience, but it’s a matter of life and death.

We need your help to make this all work during this years Sturgis Rally

Please help us keep the police and tow trucks at home by preventing others from violating this parking rule.  We can’t be everywhere all the time.  Thanks.

One unit per RV space

Only one camping unit will be allowed in any RV site. In addition to the camping unit, motorcycles and/or one 4-wheeled vehicle is allowed within the site. Any additional 4-wheeled vehicles must be kept in a designated parking lot and NOT in the RV camping area.

Keep up with new Sturgis Rally and Buffalo Chip information at www.buffalochip.com

Admittance procedure may change in order to insure a smooth arrival and placement into your site. Be sure to check the website again for last minute instructions just before departure for the Rally. You will enter the campground on the west side from 131st Avenue. You must stop at the Box Office in order to get your credentials. You must also then stop at the entrance in order to have your credentials verified.

Check in at the West Gate

Upon your arrival at the RV entrance gate, you will check in. Those with trailers longer than 20 feet, or trailers that won't fit within the reserved RV site, must drop their trailers in the trailer area (unless you have reserved a space in Crazy Horse) and be directed to the appropriate RV area. Trailers longer than 20 feet will not be allowed to the RV areas (except Crazy Horse). At each RV area you will be escorted to your designated RV site.

Please don't waste the water while visiting the Sturgis Rally

Water is precious, particularly when we are in a drought. Even the City of Sturgis has rationed water. The Chip is fortunate to have three wells and more than 500,000 gallons of storage capacity. We should have adequate water at all times. However, we do not wish to have water wasted. RVs consume inordinate quantities of water. Water for drinking and showers are our priority. Do not fill swimming pools; do not use high pressure sprayers to wash your RV; do not water the grass or alfalfa around your site; do not leave a garden hose running water onto the ground.

Things happen

Water may have to be rationed to RV sites. This has only happened once when the power transformer melted down and isn't expected to happen again. However, stuff happens. Just know we'll be doing all we can to avoid it. Please arrive with your water tank(s) full.

Please bear with us

Water may have to be temporarily discontinued to conduct repairs, such as when another RV driver accidentally runs over a spigot and causes the water line to run water onto the ground until repaired. Again, stuff happens and we'll do all we can to repair it when it does.

No Fireworks or Open Fires during the Sturgis Rally in Meade County

Fireworks are not allowed. This is due to the normally very dry conditions. Also, the government has outlawed it. And, when a nearby farmer's haystack or hay field starts on fire, the government officials take the position that we should have prevented our campers from shooting off fireworks. Please don't put us in that position. And please understand when our security patrols are working hard to apprehend violators. We don't need to have a fire during the rally.

Enjoy you stay and please conserve electricity

Electricity is always an issue. We take for granted that we put the end of our cord somewhere and we're supposed to have dependable power. However, it ain't necessarily so. The Chip obtains its electrical power from two individual rural electric associations. Both those power companies experience power shortages at times of high demand. The high demand, of course, is during the motorcycle rally when you're here, it's 100 degrees and an extra 100,000 air conditioners are running. The power companies have more than doubled the power available to the Buffalo Chip again this year, and so it is hoped that you will experience no fluctuations in power. However, it is your responsibility to check the consistency of your power supply and, if it is unsatisfactorily fluctuating, you should switch your air conditioner to propane or your generator. This is not something the Chip has control over. The Buffalo Chip is not liable for any damages caused by fluctuations or loss of power.

Thanks for respecting everyone's right to party

This is still a biker rally, even in the RV camps. We do not post guards at the RVs and we do not attempt to make people go to bed, sleep, etc. Someone may want to party and make noise in the middle of the night. It's generally very quiet in the RV parks, but it may be the guy next to you who isn't. We've found it's best to let people play on their vacation. Please bring along ear plugs if you anticipate a problem and, if you are in need of additional quiet, be sure to park on the perimeter and as far away from the stage as possible.

I have read and understand the above information about RV camping and I wish to "RESERVE NOW".
