Meet LORNA CUNY

MEDICINE WHEEL RIDE
@5lovescuny

Meet Lorna Cuny, a proud member of the Oglala Sioux Tribe and a US Navy veteran. Her love for motorcycles ignited during her upbringing on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation, where she rode with her parents around their ranch. In 2018, Lorna purchased her very own motorcycle, igniting an unwavering passion.

In 2019, fueled by a desire to connect with fellow indigenous women riders, Lorna set out on a transformative journey to Albuquerque, New Mexico. There, she met four other indigenous women, and together they founded the Medicine Wheel Ride, becoming one of the first indigenous women’s motorcycle riding groups. United by a shared purpose, their mission is to ride in solidarity, advocating for the rights and well-being of indigenous women nationwide.

Their first Medicine Wheel Ride traced the shape of a medicine wheel on a cross-country journey, capturing national attention and shedding light on the challenges faced by indigenous women. This year marks the fourth annual Medicine Wheel Ride at Sturgis, where they continue to mobilize resources and support for indigenous communities in need. Moreover, they pay deep respect to the lands of each indigenous nation they traverse, honoring their rich heritage and culture.
