Meg McDonough became the first female officer for the Jackpine Gypsy MC in 2005. Meg’s passion for preservation of motorcycle history within the Black Hills was fueled by the original first two road captains sharing their stories about Sturgis history. Meg began to notice that there were no events during the Sturgis Rally that honored women within the history of motorcycling and came up with an idea that would change that.
In 2007, after being the Road Captain for the Buffalo Chips breast cancer ride, Cris Summer Simmons, Gloria and Lori Struck joined Meg at the reception following the ride. While gathered together Meg shared her idea about creating an event that honored women in the history of motorcycling and asked Cris, Gloria and Lori, if she proposed the idea to the Buffalo Chip and they were willing to facilitate the event, would they come to the first event the following summer. They were excited about the possibility and agreed to attend the following summer of 2008, which created the Biker Belles first event.
