Meet Mike Skinner

RACE CAR DRIVER

Today, Mike Skinner is best known for his career as a NASCAR driver, but it took nearly 25 years for him to get to that point. Starting out at Susanville (Calif.) Speedway in the 1970s, Skinner moved to North Carolina in 1983 to pursue racing. Working as a crew member on a NASCAR Cup Series team, Skinner raced late models on the side until he was noticed by Richard Childress. Hired to race the famed No. 3 truck in 1995 for the inaugural NASCAR Truck Series season, Skinner won the series’ first race and went on to win the first championship. By 1997, he was promoted to compete full-time in the Cup Series for Richard Childress Racing. Over the next seven seasons, Skinner collected the Rookie of the Year title, won six pole awards and a pair of exhibition races. In 2004, he signed with Toyota in a move that took him back to his roots in the NASCAR Truck Series. The first driver to secure 50 poles in the Truck Series, Skinner stats ranked him among the best of the best by the time of his retirement.  In 2013, he was recognized for his accomplishments as an inductee into the West Coast Stock Car Hall of Fame.

Today, Skinner joins his wife Angie as host of Skinner Round-Up on SiriusXM NASCAR Radio. He races on the vintage racing circuit competing in events around the world, and continues to support various charities through the “Skinner Round-Up for Charity” event.
