Meet R. Lee “Gunney” Ermey

A talented character actor known for his military roles, Ronald Lee Ermey was in the United States Marine Corps for 11 years. However, his most famous role came as Gunnery Sergeant Hartman in Stanely Kubrick’s “Full Metal Jacket” in 1987—a role for which he received a Golden Globe nomination. He won the best supporting actor award from The Boston Society of Film Critics. Since then, Gunney has appeared in numerous character roles in such films as “Leaving Las Vegas,” “Se7en” and “Dead Man Walking.” Despite his many dramatic roles, Ermey prefers comedy to drama, and has a comedic role in “Saving Silverman.” Ermey continues to be one of the best characters in the business and you can bet that if his name appears in a movie’s credits, he is going to be top notch no matter the role.
