Meet Roger Meek

2020 Honoree

Captain Meek is a native of Tacoma, WA. He enlisted in the Navy in 1978 and graduated from Basic Underwater Demolition Team/SEAL (BUD/S) Training with Class #106 in 1980. His first assignment was SEAL Team ONE where he made four Western Pacific deployments. In 1986, he was assigned to BUD/S for instructor duty. A graduate of National University he completed Officers Candidate School and commissioned in 1989 followed by Spanish language training at Defense Language Institute, Monterey, CA.

Additional Naval Special Warfare and operational assignments include: Assistant Platoon Commander at SEAL Team FOUR, Assistant Training and Readiness Officer at Naval Special Warfare Group TWO, Officer-In-Charge CINCUSACOM Regional Survey Team, Dry Deck Shelter Platoon Commander and Training Officer at SEAL Delivery Vehicle Team TWO, Reserve Liaison Officer for Commander, Special Boat Squadron One, Commanding Officer, Operational Support Team One (subsequently renamed SEAL Team SEVENTEEN), Chief Staff Officer, Naval Special Warfare Group ELEVEN, Special Projects Officer, Naval Special Warfare Command where he deployed as the Deputy, Joint Special Operations Task Force – Philippines, Commodore Naval Special Warfare Group ELEVEN.

Assignments outside of Naval Special Warfare enterprise include: Training Officer at Navy Reserve Readiness Command 22; Commanding Officer, Navy & Marine Corps Reserve Center Tucson; J3 Plans Deputy for Commander, Special Operations Command, Central; Commanding Officer – Navy Operational Support Center Los Angeles, Commanding Officer – Navy Operational Support Center Ventura County.

Captain Meek earned a Master of Arts Degree in Management from National University, a Master of Arts Degree in National Security and Strategic Studies at the U. S. Naval War College, earning his designation as Joint Specialty Officer.

His personal decorations include Legion of Merit Medal(2), Defense Meritorious Service Medal(2), Meritorious Service Medal(4), Navy Commendation Medal(4), Joint Service Achievement Medal, Navy Achievement Medal(2), and various unit and service awards.

His most meaningful and rewarding aspect in life are his children. His son Justin graduated from California Lutheran University with a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice/Criminology and a minor in music. He was planning to join the Coast Guard in 2019 when he died of gunshot wounds on 18 Nov 2018 while saving lives during a mass shooting in Thousand Oaks, CA. His daughter Victoria Rose recently graduated from California Lutheran University in May with a double major in Criminal Justice/Criminology and Psychology and is planning to serve in the U.S. Navy Intelligence Community later this year.
