A.B.A.T.E. Motorcycle Rodeo

A.B.A.T.E. Motorcycle Rodeo coming to the Chip during the 2006 Sturgis Rally

A.B.A.T.E. members from across South Dakota will converge on the Legendary Buffalo Chip to put on one of the largest motorcycle rodeos the state has ever seen.

Rodeos will be bracketed and run in two stretches, the first running from Sat., Aug. 5 through Tues., Aug. 8; and the second from Wed. Aug. Aug. 9 through Sat., Aug 12.  They’ll be conducted in the Buffalo Chip’s amphitheater daily with daily winners bracketed to an overall prize on Tues, Aug. 8 and Sat., Aug. 12 respectively.

According to Sonny Mudlin, State Representative for the Rushmore ABATE chapter, the events will include a Plank Race, Slow Race, Keg Push, Drive By Shooting (team) and Weenie Bite  (team).  Ladies only events will include a plank race and a slow race.

Entry into the events will be open to campers and general public who have purchased a pass for the day.  All proceeds from the $3 per event entry fee will go to the State ABATE organization for their safety and awareness programs.  “All the proceeds will go to ABATE of South Dakota.  All workers re volunteers and prizes will come from donations,” Mudlin said.”

Awards will be given to the first three places in each event and Over All Awards will be given on Tuesday, Aug. 8 and Sat. Aug. 12.  Sign-up is currently scheduled for 2 p.m. daily.

A.B.A.T.E. of South Dakota was organized and incorporated on August 8, 1983. They are committed to serving the motorcycling public with the following objectives:

Act as a watchdog to warn members against adverse motorcycle legislation and to promote favorable legislation for motorcyclists at local, state and federal levels.
Improve road conditions, thus making roads safer for motorcyclists.
Help prevent accidents through rider awareness and education.
Discourage motorcycle thefts.
Promote political involvement of motorcyclists.
Act as a liaison between motorcyclists and government authorities.
Present and promote a better public image of motorcyclists.

BUFFALO CHIP AND A.B.A.T.E. OF SOUTH DAKOTA INVITE YOU TO COME ENJOY THE “BIKE RODEO” TO BE HELD AT THE BUFFALO CHIP DAILY FROM AUGUST 5 THRU AUGUST 12. AWARDS WILL BE PRESENTED EACH DAY TO THE WINNERS IN EACH EVENT. THE FIRST HALF OF THE COMPETITION WILL START SATURDAY WITH OVERALL CHAMPION TO BE DECIDED ON TUESDAY. THE SECOND HALF OF THE COMPETION WILL BE HELD WEDNESDAY THRU SATURDAY WHEN THE OVERALL CHAMPION FOR THE SECOND HALF WILL BE DECIDED.

SIGN UP WILL BE FROM 1:00PM UNTI 2:30PM WITH THE RODEO STARTING AT 3:00PM UNTIL ENDING AT 7:00PM. THERE WILL BE A $3.00 PER EVENT CHARGE WITH ALL PROCEEDS GOING TO A.B.A.T.E. OF SOUTH DAKOTA.

GAMES FOR SINGLE RIDERS WILL INCLUDE THE “PLANK RACE”, “SLOW RACE”, AND “SLOLAM”. TEAM EVENTS WILL INCLUDE “HELMET POLO”, “DRIVE BY SHOOTING” AND THE EVER POPULAR “WEENIE BITE”.

THERE WILL ALSO BE SEPARATE EVENTS FOR WOMEN RIDERS ONLY. THE WOMEN WILL COMPETE AGAINST EACH OTHER IN THE “PLANK RACE” “SLOW RACE” AND THE “SLALOM”.

THE PLANK RACE AND SLOW RACE WILL BE DECIDED BY BRACKETS FOR FIRST, SECOND AND THIRD. THE SLOLAM, HELMET POLO AND DRIVE BY SHOOTING WILL BE AGAINST THE CLOCK. YOU SHOULD ALL KNOW WHAT IT TAKES TO WIN THE WEENIE BITE, IF NOT YOU GOTTA COME TO THE RODEO.
