The Sturgis Rally was created as a place for people to come together, connect, and enjoy unforgettable experiences. While we love animals, the rally and our campground is designed for humans, however, we understand some visitors enjoy traveling and camping with their dogs or cats. To ensure all guests have a safe and enjoyable experience, pet owners must read and abide by the following guidelines:
- Types of Pets: You may bring service animals and well-behaved household pets such as dogs and cats to the Buffalo Chip. No other animals, livestock, birds, reptiles, insects, or exotic pets are permitted.
- Pet Pass: You must have a Pet Pass displayed prominently on the driver’s side window of your vehicle or RV at your campsite. You can pick up Pet Passes at the West and East Box Offices, West Security Office, or you can print one through the link above or below.
- Rental RV Campers: If you are renting a camper, RV campers are provided by a third-party vendor called Jack’s campers, who has a strict no-pet policy. Their no-pet policy overrides the Buffalo Chip’s Pet Policy.
- Cabins & Suites: Pets are not permitted in any Buffalo Chip–owned rental cabins or suites.
- Leash Requirement and ID Tags: You must keep your pets on leashes no longer than 6 feet at all times when outside of your vehicle, tent, or camper. Your pet must have ID Tags.
- Supervision: You shall not leave your pet tied or otherwise unattended at any time outside of your vehicle, tent, or camper. Power outages due to weather or other unforeseen circumstances can happen, and we want your pet to stay safe. High temperatures can make an RV very hot, creating an unsafe environment while you’re out riding or enjoying the events. Please have a way to monitor the temperature so you can be alerted and return to your pet, like Waggle or Necto pet monitors.
- Clean-Up: You are responsible for immediately cleaning up after your pet and properly disposing of waste in trash receptacles. Failure to clean up after your pet immediately will result in the removal of your pet and you from the property without a refund.
- Behavior: Aggressive or disruptive animals will be asked to leave the campground. This includes but is not limited to excessive barking, whining, or otherwise uncontrolled behavior. Should you be asked to remove your pet from the grounds, you have the choice to board your animal or leave with them with no refund. Please ask the Box Office for a list of local k
- Restricted Areas: Due to health and safety rules, your pets are not allowed in the following areas:
- The amphitheater
- Rental cabins or suites
- RV Campers rented from Jack’s Campers

- Exercise Areas: You can exercise your pet in the free East Gate parking areas before 5:00 p.m. if your pet needs to stretch their legs.
- Liability: You assume full responsibility for your pets’ behavior, actions, and safety. You agree to resolve any issues directly with the injured party. You release the Buffalo Chip from any liability for any incidents, injuries, or damages involving pets.
- Registration: Your pets must have current vaccinations and you must have records available upon request.
- Service Animals: Service animals are allowed under the Americans with Disabilities Act. Beginning on March 15, 2011, only dogs are recognized as service animals under titles II and III of the ADA. A service animal is any dog that is individually trained to do work or perform tasks for a person with a disability.
- Restricted Breeds: Breeds with a history of aggressive behavior to other dogs and people are not permitted, as dictated by the Buffalo Chip’s insurance provider. Restricted breeds include Dobermanns, Pit Bulls, Rottweilers, German Shepherds, Chow Chows, Wolves, and mixes of these breeds. Please kennel your animal if this is the breed of your animal.
- Kennels: Should you need or choose to find other accommodations for your pet, please ask the Box Office for a list of local kennels.
- Agreement: You agree that camping with pets includes certain risks as a result of interactions with wildlife, loud motorcycles, vehicles and crowds of people. By purchasing a pass and deciding to bring your pet, you acknowledge that you have read, understand and agree to comply with the Pet Policy.
We reserve the right to remove you and your pet from the Buffalo Chip property for any reason.
We encourage you to review this helpful etiquette advice, which explains the importance of considerate behavior in shared spaces.
