Lynyrd Skynyrd and World’s Best Motorcycle Builders Join Legendary Sturgis Buffalo Chip® Lineup in 2020

Sturgis, SD (February 14, 2020) Few entities and people have stood the test of time and can rightfully be called legendary like those joining the Sturgis Buffalo Chip lineup today. The Buffalo Chip’s self-proclaimed house band, Lynyrd Skynyrd, is continuing a legendary tradition by finishing off their 40-plus year career with an ultimate send-off on the Wolfman Jack Stage on Sunday, Aug. 9. This is Skynyrd’s second stop at the Chip as part of their three-year “Farewell Tour.” In keeping with the theme, 36 of the world’s most celebrated motorcycle builders have accepted Michael Lichter’s invitation to create and display a motorcycle in the style of their choosing for the Sturgis Buffalo Chip’s 2020 Motorcycles as Art exhibit titled “Heavy Mettle: Motorcycles and Art with Moxie.”

Shirley Wetz chosen as the 2020 Ruth Ziolkowski Outstanding Hospitality & Customer Service Award winner

Sturgis, SD (January 25, 2020) – Governor Kristi Noem honored Sturgis Buffalo Chip employee Shirley Wetz with the Ruth Ziolkowski Outstanding Hospitality & Customer Service Award this week at the South Dakota Governor’s Conference on Tourism in Pierre. The annual award recognizes a member of the South Dakota tourism industry who provides remarkable service to every visitor and demonstrates an outstanding spirit of hospitality, warmth and genuine kindness. The South Dakota Department of Tourism presents this prestigious award to four individuals, one from each of the state’s four tourism regions. Wetz was the recipient chosen in 2020 from the Black Hills & Badlands region.

Sturgis Buffalo Chip® and The Flying Piston Donate and Deliver Strider Bikes to Three Rural South Dakota Schools

Sturgis, SD (December 19, 2019) – Kindergarten students in three rural western South Dakota schools will be learning to ride a bicycle in PE class thanks to a gift of 66 Strider balance bikes from the Sturgis Buffalo Chip, Flying Piston and Strider. The bikes were assembled by Buffalo Chip staff, packed into a trailer and hand delivered to elementary schools in Dupree, Lemmon and Faith, S.D. Donations made through the Buffalo Chip’s Biker Belles® and The Flying Piston made it possible for each of the schools’ Kindergarten PE programs to receive everything needed to teach children how to ride bikes. All three schools received teacher training and certification, a structured eight-lesson curriculum, a fleet of 22 Strider 14x Balance Bikes, 22 Pedal Conversion Kits, 22 fully adjustable helmets and a five-year support plan.
