Applications Now Accepted for Buffalo Chip Challenge™ Custom Motorcycle Build and Scholarship Program

Spearfish, SD (December 5, 2016) – Black Hills area high school students are invited to apply for a position in the prestigious Buffalo Chip Challenge 2017 custom motorcycle build program, which offers a chance at significant educational scholarships. Ten students will be accepted to learn valuable mechanical skills and customization techniques through hands-on instruction from industry professionals at Terry Components in Spearfish. The class will meet two to three days per week December through April during after-school hours and on weekends. A variety of criteria including level of participation, interest and improved abilities over the course of the program will determine the scholarships to be awarded in May by Buffalo Chip President Rod Woodruff. There is no fee for students to join the program, but space is limited to 10 students. Interested students should visit LegendsRide.com/Scholarships and submit an application before the Dec. 19, 2016 deadline.

The Buffalo Chip Challenge allows students the opportunity to work with motorcycle industry veteran Keith Terry in a real shop environment. Students will be customizing a 2016 Harley-Davidson Road King. Many of the motorcycle industry’s top companies continue to sponsor world-class parts for this Buffalo Chip build program each year, recognizing its significance as part of the growth and success in American custom bike building.

In addition to working with the industry’s finest, participating students will also have the opportunity to accompany program instructors to the world-renowned Donnie Smith Bike and Car Show in St. Paul, MN March 25-26, 2017 where the motorcycle will compete against the nation’s top builders. The completed motorcycle will then be auctioned in support of the Buffalo Chip’s Legends Ride® charity event in Deadwood on Monday, Aug. 7, 2017.
