Custom Chrome International’s Buffalo Chip Challenge™ Sponsorship Gives Students Edge

SANTA CLARA, CALIF. – Custom Chrome International (CCI) is helping sustain the motorcycle industry by promoting the education of its future technicians. CCI is proud to join forces with The Legendary Buffalo Chip® in Sturgis, S.D., and other leading motorcycle businesses in it’s sponsorship of the 2011 Buffalo Chip Challenge™. CCI is among the world’s largest suppliers of aftermarket motorcycle parts and accessories.

This ground-breaking partnership between business and education began with The Legendary Buffalo Chip® in 2010 and The Welding, Manufacturing and Collision Repair students at Western Dakota Technical Institute (WDT) in Rapid City, S.D. This year, students will build, customize and finish a stock Harley-Davidson motorcycle with renowned designer and builder Michael Prugh at the helm in a 16-week bike build program.

In addition to donating world class parts for the program, CCI will host the Buffalo Chip Challenge™ at its upcoming Dealer Show March 20th in Santa Clara. To highlight the show, Prugh and WDT students will be working on the 2011 motorcycle at the show. The finished 2010 motorcycle named, “Method” will be entered in the North American Championship of CCI’s International Bike Show Series, also taking place during the dealer show.

“We are deeply committed to our partner, Rod Woodruff and the Legendary Buffalo Chip® for our mutual efforts to promote the future technicians of our industry,” said Holger Mohr, CCI’s Chief Executive Officer. “The Buffalo Chip Challenge™ is one more way we can continue to foster the passion for motorcycling for generations to come.”

The finished Buffalo Chip Challenge™ motorcycle will be unveiled at WDT’s graduation ceremony in early May and later auctioned to help sponsor the Buffalo Chip’s annual Legends Ride™ which has, in three short years, given more than $150,000 to local Black Hills charities.

“The Buffalo Chip Challenge™ is successful due to the collective efforts of industry-leading companies like Custom Chrome. Because of their generosity, we have the opportunity to enhance the employability of these students, while helping to build an industry perfect for the state of South Dakota,” says Rod Woodruff, owner and president of the Legendary Buffalo Chip®.

The public is invited to follow the build online at, where pictures and video content of the Buffalo Chip Challenge will be published.
