For the last 11 years, some of the world’s most meticulously crafted and elaborate custom motorcycles and related artwork have made their way to the legendary Buffalo Chip during the Sturgis Rally by way of the Chip’s Motorcycles As Art™ exhibit, curated by renowned motorcycle photographer Michael Lichter. The exhibit’s 2019 theme, “What’s The Skinny,” displayed the creations of nearly 40 custom motorcycle builders and artists and proved that thinking thin and minimal can produce some of the most breathtaking custom motorcycles. No Fun at Mama Tried and Flat Out Friday
The Mama Tried Custom Motorcycle Show in Milwaukee, WI has earned a reputation as an impressive collection of diverse custom motorcycles mixed with an atmosphere of fun-loving moto junkies. On top of that, they kick off the weekend with an indoor flat track race called Flat Out Friday that pulls some of the fastest on the track. That sounded like an experience we couldn’t pass up, so we hitched a ride with the Go Fast Don’t Die crew to take you inside the event that goes down right in Harley-Davidson’s own backyard.

2017 Motorcycles As Art Exhibit, Old Iron – Young Blood, Takes Custom Motorcycles into the Next Generation
For nearly a decade, the Sturgis Buffalo Chip's® Motorcycles As Art™ exhibit curated by renowned motorcycle photographer Michael Lichter has led some of the world's most well-crafted and ornate custom motorcycles and related artwork into the legendary venue's Event Center during the Sturgis rally. The exhibit features a different theme each year that in turn informs the list of invited builders and artists. The 2017 theme, “Old Iron – Young Blood,” displayed the creations of 40 custom motorcycle builders and 18 artists all under the age of 36 and proved that the future of custom motorcycles rests in talented and steady hands. What Makes Café Racers So Hot Right Now? Find Out When Café Racer TV Features Motorcycles As Art Dec. 4
In 2013, the allure of the Sturgis Buffalo Chip® attracted the attention of numerous TV shows, including that of Velocity’s “Café Racer TV.” The show’s camera crews were on hand to document the Buffalo Chip’s annual Motorcycles As Art exhibition, curated by famed motorcycle photographer, Michael Lichter, and café racer expert, Paul D’Orleans. The hour-long special featuring this footage airs on Velocity on Wednesday, Dec. 4 at 10 p.m. ET.
It was no surprise that Café Racer TV was drawn to this year’s Motorcycles As Art exhibition, since the theme was “Ton Up! – Speed, Style and Café Racer Culture.” The exhibit explored the origins of the Café Racer movement by featuring 32 famous café racers and a collection of Lichter’s photography from the original café racing scene that had never before been published.
