Shirley Wetz chosen as the 2020 Ruth Ziolkowski Outstanding Hospitality & Customer Service Award winner
Sturgis, SD (January 25, 2020) – Governor Kristi Noem honored Sturgis Buffalo Chip employee Shirley Wetz with the Ruth Ziolkowski Outstanding Hospitality & Customer Service Award this week at the South Dakota Governor’s Conference on Tourism in Pierre. The annual award recognizes a member of the South Dakota tourism industry who provides remarkable service to every visitor and demonstrates an outstanding spirit of hospitality, warmth and genuine kindness. The South Dakota Department of Tourism presents this prestigious award to four individuals, one from each of the state’s four tourism regions. Wetz was the recipient chosen in 2020 from the Black Hills & Badlands region.

Kindergarten students in Dupree, Lemmon and Faith are learning to ride bikes courtesy of the All Kids Bike program
Sturgis, SD (December 19, 2019) – Kindergarten students in three rural western South Dakota schools will be learning to ride a bicycle in PE class thanks to a gift of 66 Strider balance bikes from the Sturgis Buffalo Chip, Flying Piston and Strider. The bikes were assembled by Buffalo Chip staff, packed into a trailer and hand delivered to elementary schools in Dupree, Lemmon and Faith, S.D. Donations made through the Buffalo Chip’s Biker Belles® and The Flying Piston made it possible for each of the schools’ Kindergarten PE programs to receive everything needed to teach children how to ride bikes. All three schools received teacher training and certification, a structured eight-lesson curriculum, a fleet of 22 Strider 14x Balance Bikes, 22 Pedal Conversion Kits, 22 fully adjustable helmets and a five-year support plan. 13 more acts round out 2019 lineup at the Largest Music Festival in Motorcycling!®
Sturgis, SD (July 10, 2019) – The world’s largest motorcycle and music festival has announced the full two-week lineup of world-class concerts, professional racing, legendary bike shows and seriously fun events to take place during its 38th annual event July 29 - Aug. 11, 2019. Thirteen additional acts have signed on to join an entertainment lineup that already includes Keith Urban, Disturbed, Toby Keith, Snoop Dogg, Godsmack, George Thorogood and the Destroyers, Styx, Collective Soul, Dee Snider, Volbeat, Theory of a Deadman, Zakk Sabbath and others. The Bob Hanson Distinguished Service Awards will be presented on the main stage on Thursday, Aug. 8
Sturgis, SD (July 1, 2019) – America’s veterans and active duty military have long held a special place at the Sturgis Buffalo Chip®. Thursday has been set aside as a day to honor all those who have served our great country and to celebrate American freedom through main stage awards, special presentations and moving ceremonies. The Buffalo Chip will honor several courageous veterans with the Bob Hanson Distinguished Service Award. The Bob Hanson Distinguished Patriot Award will also be presented and a combat amputee will be honored with a specially built trike. A special Veterans’ Charity Auction will be held at the Buffalo Chip’s Event Center near the East Gate on Thursday, Aug. 8 at 4 p.m. Auction items up for grabs include a brand-new firearm, a one-of-a-kind piece of memorabilia, and a 1990 HD FXLR Custom, completely redone with military-themed graphics from one of the top airbrush artists in the world! All are invited to attend and participate in this live and silent auction benefitting charities America’s Mighty Warriors and The Warrior Dog Foundation.

A dance troupe ready to soar on silk and light a fire!
Sturgis, SD (June 27, 2019) – The Flaunt Girls will leave audiences dazed and amazed when they perform their full show with aerial acrobatics on the Wolfman Jack Stage prior to Skid Row on Friday, Aug. 2. The dance troupe will also be performing nightly and offering their renowned ‘School of Burlesque’ on the Buffalo Chip’s Kinison Stage at the Flaunt Playground. Sturgis, SD (June 26, 2019) – The City of Sturgis yesterday sent a letter and changed its website to reflect a new date it set for the beginning of the 2020 Sturgis Rally within the City. It had in late 2016 or early 2017 changed by ordinance the way it determined when the City of Sturgis would recognize the beginning date of the motorcycle rally. Internet and other publications were not changed and many proceeded with plans based upon the date the motorcycle rally would have commenced under the decades-old formula.

New additions, free attractions, events, stunt shows, contests, races and live entertainment at the CrossRoads is growing for 2019.
Sturgis, SD (June 25, 2019)The ever-growing, free-access CrossRoads at the Sturgis Buffalo Chip has been undergoing upgrades, with plans for many new activities and events to take place during the annual Sturgis Motorcycle Rally in 2019. The most conspicuous addition is the new Big Engine Bar, which sports a 60-foot handcrafted bar where patrons will enjoy $2 beers and $3 wells, local craft beers on tap and daily live entertainment on stage.
