The Sturgis Buffalo Chip® and Lingerie for Life™ Help Fight Cancer
Surgis, SD (09-27-11)
A new feature to this year’s festivities at the Legendary Buffalo Chip during the 2011 Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, helped raise over $2000 for The American Cancer Society. The Sturgis Buffalo Chip partnered with the Bunko Behinders, a local Relay for Life team, to bring Lingerie for Life ™, a cancer awareness fundraising event, to the Chip.
Cheryl Leahy, a Bunko Behinders spokesperson, said, “We wanted to raise awareness to raise more money, and we thought of the Chip.” Buffalo Chip owner Rod Woodruff was excited to give the event a try.
Area crafts women and supporters helped make Lingerie for Life possible by donating bras and their services to decorate them. Everything from painting to beading went into making dozens of unique bras.
The Buffalo Chip’s gorgeous Budweiser Roadhouse bartenders modeled the bras throughout the day. According to Leahy, these wonderful ladies were “such a big part of the success of the event with their willingness to help out and let everyone know what we were doing.”
Along with the help of Sturgis Real Estate Company auctioneer Dave Wilson, Lingerie for Life auctioned off dozens of one-of-a-kind bras with all the proceeds going to The American Cancer Society.
Rally-goers were more than welcoming and supportive of Lingerie for Life. When not busy auctioning off bras, the Bunko Behinders were talking to dozens of people around the Chip. Seemingly everyone they talked to had known someone affected by cancer. Leahy said, “Talking to people out at the Chip felt like one big family.”
The fun atmosphere and the enthusiastic rally and Chip participants were a recipe for success. All told, Lingerie for Life’s auction, along with several donations, raised $2,345 for cancer awareness through The American Cancer Society. The money will go to cancer research and cancer patient programs put on by The American Cancer Society.
The Legendary Buffalo Chip and the Bunko Behinders are looking forward to an even bigger Lingerie for Life fundraiser in 2012 at next year’s motorcycle rally. More one-of-a-kind bras will be available to help raise money for the fight against cancer.
