Challenging Future Technicians. Powered by Industry Leaders. Building the Bike of Tomorrow.
The Sturgis Buffalo Chip, Sturgis Brown High School, Black Hills Harley-Davidson, Terry Components, and Dakota V-Twin are kicking off the 2013 Sturgis Buffalo Chip’s Student Build Challenge, a program that is more than just your usual chopper class. This innovative high school program is a mentorship bike build project, designed to empower students and promote technical education within the State of South Dakota. Sturgis Brown High School students, under the tutelage of industry veterans Keith Terry and Randy Cramer, learn state of the art techniques used to customize a stock Harley-Davidson motorcycle, transforming it into a one-of-a-kind creation.
“The Student Build Challenge is an innovative high school motorcycle mentorship program championed by the Sturgis Buffalo Chip designed to give students valuable life skills, build confidence, and create community in a unique custom bike build project,” Buffalo Chip owner Rod Woodruff said. “Students learn state of the art techniques used to fabricate, customize and finish a motorcycle project with the help of motorcycle industry professionals and industry leaders.”
Students who participate in the Student Build Challenge are able to learn valuable life lessons including, but not limited to, teamwork and the value of seeing a completed project. Students are given the opportunity to open their eyes up to industry careers once they leave school. With connections made during the building process, students are able to get their foot in the door in the motorcycling industry.
The Sturgis Buffalo Chip Student Build Challenge could not have been possible without the help of our faithful partners:
