Chip Will “Chip In” to Help Hungry Kids
Continuing our commitment to the community, the Sturgis Buffalo Chip, Knology of the Black Hills, and Boston’s the Gourmet Pizza are having a benefit at Boston’s, “Chip In”, on January 26th to help the Rapid City Public School Foundation. Proceeds raised at “Chip In” will go to benefit the BackPack Program that helps provide meals to needy children over the weekend.
On January 26th from 5 – 9 pm at Boston’s 15% of each ticket will be donated to the BackPack Program. Every Friday hundreds of kids in the Rapid City community collect a bag of food they can take home so they have food for the weekend. Staff from the Sturgis Buffalo Chip and Knology of the Black Hills will be there to help host and raise awareness about the BackPack Program.

Paving the Way – Marge Hummel
Our preview of the “Paving the Way – The Women of the Motorcycle Hall of Fame” exhibit, continues with a look at Marjorie Hummel. The
Sturgis Buffalo Chip
® and the
Sturgis Motorcycle Museum & Hall of Fame
are excited to bring Sturgis rally-goers another sneak peek into this unique exhibit.
In 1939, at age 25, Marge Dwyer was the first female long distance rider to attend the Black Hills Motor Classic. Her first bike was a used 1935 Harley-Davidson which she used to commute to and from work. In the spring of the 1938 she purchased a new 45 cubic inch Harley-Davidson and hit the road in 1939 with her 19 year-old sister Angie to tour the Rocky Mountains and the Pacific Northwest. They lived out of the two saddlebags and one suitcase and dressed in canvas helmets, boots, breeches and leather coats.
In Washington they hooked up with the Tacoma Motorcycle Club, riding with two members to the 1939 World Exposition in San Francisco before heading back home to South Dakota, via the 1939 Black Hills Motor Classic. When they returned home to Hurley, South Dakota, the total mileage for the trip was 6070 miles.
Marge was the very first woman to compete in an official Rally event.
