Feel the ground rumble, see the dirt fly and experience a serious adrenaline spike as hand-built street bikes go handlebar to handlebar during the Buffalo Chip Moto Stampede Wednesday, Aug. 8, 2018.
A crazy crew of unrulies will slide sideways and tear past spectators during a full day of Hooligan events, and when they do, you’ll want to be sure you’re caught in the dust.
The already crazy day will then go completely off the rails when The Reverend Horton Heat and Eric Church rain down from the Wolfman Jack Stage!
What is Hooligan Racing?
This is a throwback to the days when young men lightened and tweaked their street machines into dirt track racers. Racing was done at local tracks and vacant lots where friends could gather to cheer on their buddies, race whatever bike they owned, then ride that bike home.
The Jackpine Gypsies Motorcycle Club of Sturgis may have been the first ones to elevate flat track racing and organize a hooligan race with American-made V-twins back in the 1930s. Recent efforts to revive the thrill and the “run what you brung” attitude has reignited this fire in today’s moto and custom enthusiasts.
Hooligan rules are loose and limit the bikes to 750CC and up twins in stock frames with dirt track tires and no front brakes. The rules are meant to open up the racing to many manufacturers, creating exciting multi-brand racing.
About the Track & Races
The Hooligan Races allow you to experience the excitement and surprises of traditional heritage racing in an intimate setting. As a spectator, you’ll be able to line the raceway and feel the grit and dust as competitors scramble for the lead.
The Buffalo Chip’s dirt flat track circles the infield between the legendary Wolfman Jack Stage and the Top Shelf with a couple of fairly sharp turns that should give racers pause, but haven’t yet.
A custom 2018 Scout Sixty was specially built by J&P Cycles and GEICO to tear up the track and later be given away from the main stage as the Buffalo Chip’s Moto Stampede Bike Giveaway.
