When news broke in early August that hundreds of thousands of bikers were heading to the 80th annual Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, living rooms across the nation lit up with theories of what this event would look like amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.

Journalists from every imaginable outlet flocked to the area, pointing their cameras at biker destinations across the Black Hills in order to send a snapshot and a story to viewers at home. But truly portraying this event required more coverage than these outlets could muster.

In a world where questions loom large, the answer to the question “Is Sturgis canceled?” is crystal clear. Put simply, NO.

The Sturgis Motorcycle Rally is NOT canceled, and it would never have been canceled even if City of Sturgis had voted to not participate in it on June 15, 2020.

According to a Sturgis.com press release, the reason for this lies in the fact that no one owns the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally.

Remembering Charlie Brechtel

A simple handshake in 2004 was all it took to bring biker bluesman Charlie Brechtel into the lives of countless Sturgis Buffalo Chip fans. Now, nearly two decades later, a tragic accident was all it took for him to be taken away. On April 25, 2020, Charlie Brechtel was killed in a motorcycle accident near his home in Copperopolis, CA, leaving the Buffalo Chip family and the greater motorcycle community suffering an unimaginable loss.

This means that any business planning to use the words “Sturgis,” “Sturgis Rally & Races” or “Sturgis Motorcycle Rally” may do so without any fear of getting themselves into legal hot water.

Remembering Jessi Combs

The entire automotive world had the air let out of our tires and our hearts run over early this morning with news that Jessi Combs had died. She was known in part as the “Fastest Woman on Four Wheels” for her 398 mph land speed record in the North American Eagle Supersonic Speed Challenger. It was a crash during her attempt to beat this record in a 52,000 horsepower, jet-powered car that resulted in her untimely departure from this earth on August 27, 2019.
